Wow, I Think I Made It

This course was extremely challenging for me, but I sure did learn a lot. Some of the learning purposes and outcomes were to analyze, learn, and use current technology related material to learning and educate. I feel I have learned about many web quest websites that will help my future students. I now feel confident on Google docs, Go Animate, Snag it, Flicker, Word press, and many more sites. I have learned the importance of collaboration among educators and the importance of copyright laws. I have learned hands on computer developing skills and the importance of research of learning. My future students will learn in many different ways and it is my job as their educator to be proactive and make sure they have the resources to learn the best ways possible for each student. I have practiced, and developed projects on the internet that will apply to my future in education. Technology is growing and I need to stay aware and learn all these tools that are available through technology. I am excited for my final project because I have researched, designed, and constructed a lesson plan on a meaningful educational web quest that I can use in the future. I have concluded many integrated learning activities for my students and ready to teach and make a difference.

Copyright; Copyleft Post

Copyright laws and creative commons are important for students and educators to understand the rights of authors. I feel it would be extremely helpful for students to understand what laws mean regarding copyright rights. The future of the internet and websites are growing and children are using computers and technology more than ever in this time period. The future of intellectual property is heading in the right direction if educators and parents are teaching children young the rights and laws when using the internet and websites. For example, instead of teaching children not to use computers, cell phones, and devices in the classroom, educators should be teaching children the appropriate way to use these devices in a professional way. Technology is the future and is now growing and expanding, authors work online is their property and should be respected. Students need to learn the appropriate way to use work or research online and obey the copyright laws. This has the biggest impact in the classroom because teachers need to be teaching and explaining the laws to students. Social networking can have a positive and negative effect on intellectual property and copyright laws. For example, social media websites that promotes material, school projects, music and much more to be downloaded from the internet. This grabs the student’s attention because they want the easy way out of free homework assessments or free music online. Students need to be educated on the copyright laws and the consequences of not obeying the laws. I feel collaborative tools have a positive influence on intellectual property because teachers and professionals that are respecting the law give credit to whose work they are using or get permission to use ideas, thoughts, and lesson plans in their classroom. Educators need to set positive examples for students when using and obeying the copyright laws.

What impact do your predict will this
trend have had in education?
I predict this trend on Pinterest for education ideas will expand from pictures and ideas to lesson plans and skills learned in the classroom. Sharing ideas in the classroom among teachers through collaboration is to benefit the children. Especially children with special needs, these children learn in many different ways and for teachers to exchanges tools, skills, and ideas will help other children with special needs.
What benefits do you predict?
I predict teachers will have effective ways for universal design learning. I believe these educators will collaborate their ideas and lesson plans for other students because they understand how each student learns in different ways. With teachers speaking over the social media using educational tools, this will expand creative and help educators and students succeed in the classroom. I feel if Pinterest is starting out now with pictures and ideas in the classroom, can you imagine in 10 years? Imagine all the ideas, and creatively that can take off on this educational site. Teachers can then recommend this site for parents to learn tools and skills to use these methods at home.
What pitfalls? Be thoughtful and creative.
I feel some of the pitfalls for this educational tool would be teachers not collaborating on these sites and using these tools to be a teacher. It is important for teachers to use these sites a resource and skill produce the best work possible. In addition, if this educational tool is specific in grade level and subject, teachers will have a hard time understanding the lesson plans and ideas to produce these ideas affectively in their classroom.

Here Comes Everybody

I own a company called Pinterest, this is a thriving social media company that provides an internet service as a discovery tool. The reasons that have supported my use of social media site are a range of individuals who seek visual pictures, ideas, crafts, and much more for various activities are projects. Individuals have supported my site for ideas on art, crafts, lesson plan ideas for teachers, creative decorations for classrooms, web design, home design, birthday parties, photos, and fashion. This website of social media is effective because it shows a visual picture of what is displayed, shown, and taught. Let us think about it? It is hard to get a clear picture of a craft through only instructions online, this social media site allows people to see the final product and get excited to make the craft, idea, and project come alive. People using the site can pin and share their finding and ideas online to help others with their projects. This helps people collect ideas, and give others ideas and find creativity. Teachers are always looking for new ideas to use in the classroom to improve their students’ lives and this social media website opens up opportunity for teachers to collaborate and share with one another all over the world. This social media website has an effective impact on education because children are benefiting from crafts, lesson plans, books, ideas for behavior plans, programs in the classroom, and conduct charts. Cultural is shared throughout the site, through food, fashion, family, and art. This opens many individuals’ minds and hearts to the different cultures in the world through viewing photos and educating oneself. Viewing photos and obtaining a visual, brings education and cultural to life.

The World in Their Hands

If my students had hand held school devices with the capabilities of your cell phone or smart phone but not included the phone part, I feel it would benefit me as a teacher and them as a student. This will save time on lesson plans and give educators extra time to spend with students who needed extra help. I feel these devices would fall under the universal design technology stage and give students the opportunity to learn in many different ways. For example I would be able to provide students with a hand held visual on information or writing material they need to learn. Let’s face it, we have visual student learners who need that extra visual picture. These devices create tools for students and teachers to both learn and work together to make sure the child’s needs is being met academically. The benefits are saving educators time at home and away from their families. Educator’s will then provide better lesson plans for students and be overall a happier teacher which students will see very quickly and become more eager to learn and grow in the classroom. Some of the troubles are if teachers are not trained on how to use and teach students to use devices, the devices will cause classroom distraction and lead to broken equipment. Students need to learn the appropriate way to handle the device and teach them professional boundaries when using the devices. For example, Devices are only to be used when instructed by teacher, put away properly, and used with respect, and patience. If rules and guidelines are put into place before the devices are given to students, this would make the process easier and successful. Digital Natives are a part of today’s society and it is our job as educators to teach students the appropriate way to use the devices instead of taking them away.

Cloudware and Freemium

Cloudware is software that allows users to build and manage application in the online environment. When I first started this course and began learning about the different cloudware, it was overwhelming to be honest. It was my first time using Google Doc. for presentations, Flickr, and Snaglt. I had no idea what a blog is or what a wiki was. I was so lost but after reading the material and researching the weekly topic, I feel more confident. Snaglt is so awesome and I really enjoyed the assignments using the program. I believe cloudware is like anything else, it may be scary or overwhelming in the beginning but with practice you will be more familiar with the material and grow to love it. I was so excited to show my husband how we used our voices in our fairy-tale-story and I am excited for more assignments using snaglt in the future.

I understand now how these programs work well for educators if used properly. This week I have learned the importance of collaboration especially among educators to improve each other with tools, experiences, thoughts, and ideas that can benefit other students. Cloud ware technology is here to stay and in my opinion is just getting started. I feel these programs can improve education for our students and a great way to keep teachers learning as well.

Teachers are busy and collaboration technologies in the cloud using tablets, mac books, etc give each other a way to stay connected and informed regardless the distance. I believe you can learn from people all around the world, and cloudware makes this happen.

EDUTOPIA ARTICLE

Nathan Barber article, “Why I Flattened My School” was convinced by anecdotal evidence suggesting that flat organizations tend to foster creativity and collaboration better than hierarchical ones. He kept this in mind and set out to make a radical change.
He went on to share his ideas with faculty and he encouraged them to share new ideas, things and to collaborate with each other to better educate their kids. The problem was that collaboration and creativity lacked staying power with the faculty. He was not going to give up and came across an article from Zappos that had experiences terrific collaboration and great creativity among the members involved due to flattenting. In a flat organization collaboration and creativity happens with self-starters, and teamwork. Zappos is a thriving business because of the ideas, and collaboration between people in the business. They communicate well, share ideas, and encourage each other to be the best. For example, CEO of Zappos, Tony had a higher vision of purchase besides sales that made his business successful and thrive. I believe this is the same for educators. It is our job to find ways to educate our students, rather they are high functioning, or low functioning. Students learn in different ways and as teachers we must creativity share and collaborate our ideas with other educators to better the live of our students.
Nathan Barber became inspired and went on to flatten his school by first training educators of collaboration training. This training required research, brainstorming, and experiments. This solution was a successful and once teachers got on board with the collaboration ideas, there school flattened and more children succeed.

The world is flat.

The world is Flat explained many concerning issues that are currently taking place in today’s society. Friedman explains past events that took place and how today’s world we live in is flattening. What does “Flattening” mean to you? Let think about it. Solid ground, easier to see, straight, visible. Meaning we are all connected “NOW” in a similar way. Having a flat world means that it is now easier to communicate and share with one another using technology. We are no longer separated by distance but connected through the advances technology. My thoughts about Friedmans global outlook was wow, he has a point and once I started listening and researching I found out I agree with alot of what he is saying.
He makes it clear that education is the only hope for continues prosperity in our nation. MY reaction to this is that I agree 100%. Education has always been a huge part of the world but today’s requirements for job placements and job opportunity are higher than they have ever been. For example, my aunt has worked at an insurance company for more 25 years, she recently did not receive her promotion because she declined the position that required she go back to school and get a Masters Degree in the field. She thought, I am 52 years old, how will I be any good at school. She thought isn’t by 2 year degree, enough. But the job market has shifted, and no it is not enough in today’s flat world. Colleges have made it easier for students to attend school, by providing night classes, weekend classes, etc. Continuing your education is most important and I believe you are never too old to learn and grow to improve our nation.

Shift Changes Reflection

Change is occurring among humans and technology. As the world shifts, so do we.

As I reflect on the “Shift Happens” videos I realize there is more to it than technology advancement. There are higher expectations and more responsibility among people in the 21st century to educate our future students and children. Coping with change isn’t easy for everyone, I find it very challenging at times to keep up with all the new technology and social media information. I do find it every helpful not only as a future educator but as a Mother. For example, my daughter had a febrile seizure last October, the ER doctors were explaining it to me and all the technical verbiage wasn’t making any sense. I found a website on the internet for Parents who want a visual and verbal breakdown on illness. As a parent you want to do anything for your child and learning about the awareness of fevers and the best medicines, makes technology very helpful. Although, there are downsides to the highly advanced technology, internet sites are not always accredited and making sure you have correct and reliable information is very important.

Furthermore, the shift is towards education, technology, cultural, lifestyles, and experiences. There is no one way to live your life, there is no rule book, nor guidelines but the fact is people are changing and so is the world. The world is changing for the better but I do feel like students need to focus on the moment of their education and really enjoy the learning experience. We all know that multitasking is apart of today’s world, and most college students today can do 10 things at once but life is too short to rush through everything.

Vision of Students Today

Thomas Edison said, “The value of an idea lies in the using of it” I feel this relates to the vision of students today because recognizing how you learn depends on yourself. It is important for students to recognize his or her learning type. While some students may be visual learners others are auditory learners that can benefit from recording lectures, watching videos, and taping notes after writing them. Students learn is multiple ways and with today’s technology advancement learning is done in all shapes and forms. It is our job as future educators to make a difference and prepare for advanced skills and tools we will need to make our future students successful.
